  12. To anyone who knows faxmodems, or the USR Sportster VI.  I have a
  13. problem that I can't figure out.

  15. U.S. Robotics will not respond to my email and fax requests for help
  16. (except for an automated response saying they will get back to me).
  17. Attached is a copy of my last email to U.S. Robotics with info.

  19. By the way, SmithMicro (the software vendor) will not help at all!

  21. If anone can give me a word or two of advice, I would appreciate it.
  22. I am going to take Friday off to tackle this thing once again!

  32. Sould someone please call me?  I have sent three emails and one fax,
  33. with no response.  I have been trying to get help for over a week.
  34. Attached is an updated description of my problem, and all the info I
  35. can think of that might be relevant.  If I cannot get help, I am going
  36. to return the modem to my vendor, who allows returns for 30 days.

  43. My Sportster VI 28.8 with personal voice mail send faxes very well,
  44. but, using the software it was shipped with  (Quick Link), it will not
  45. receive faxes, and the fax on demand feature does not work.Could you
  46. help me?

  48. My fax-demand problems are as follows:

  50.  When I call the modem from a fax machine telephone, and select the
  51. Fax on Demand box, I get the appropriate fax-on-demand prompts before
  52. and after selecting the fax to send. However, I never get the 'beep'
  53. that FDREADY tells me to wait for.  Some info that  might be relevant:

  55. 1.    After I get the msg telling me to wait for a beep, QuickLink
  56. opens 
  57.      the "Call Manager - Sending" screen.  The information it
  58. shows:
  59.  
  60.     Status: dialing
  61.     Fax number : Fax on demand
  62.     Fax number: on line
  63.  
  64. 2.    After one minute, the "Call Manager - Sending" status line
  65. changes 
  66.              to no carrier.
  67.  
  68. 3.    According to the send log, I am getting a 304 error, no
  69. carrier 
  70.              detected after dial.
  71.  
  72. 4.    I am using a US Robotics Sportster VI 28.8 Faxmodem, with
  73. which 
  74.              QuickLink Message Center was shipped.  It works fine as a
  75.  
  76.              data modem, Windows terminal recognizes it,and it's set 
  77.              up normally on COM2/IRQ3. The output of I7 and the string

  107. 6.    Quick Link's comtest finds the modem before I load Call
  108. Manager, 
  109.              but cannot find it *after* I load call manager.

  111. 7.    I tried both the default init string that QuickLink uses for
  112. "U.S. 
  113.              Robotics Voice Mail", and the init string you list in 
  114.              your text file for QL II for Windows : 
  115.               (AT&F&B1&H1&R2&A3&K3X4S0=0S7=90S36=0).  Neither one 
  116.              works.

  118. 8.      I ran Modem Doctor 6.0  and some other tests against the 
  119.           odem..and found some anomolies:
  120.  
  121.     a.   Modem Doctor: DSR did not follow DTR drop
  122.                    CTS did not follow RTS drop
  123.  
  124.     b.   Modem Doctor: It got many "carrier answer" errors
  125.  
  126.     c.   Modem Doctor: could find no Modem ID Type
  127.  
  128.     d.   Another utility: Could find no DCE Model Information, DCE 
  129.                    manufacturer, or DCE revision  number.
  130.  
  131. 9.    Another (related or unrelated problem): Quicklink seems
  132. unaware 
  133.              when a  caller (at least once in the faxback box) has 
  134.              hung up..it just keeps playing the outgoing messages.
  135.
